Data Visualization Engineer

Description

Design and implement interactive, performant data visualizations and dashboard experiences. You’ll collaborate with design to turn complex data into intuitive visuals and work with backend engineers to deliver scalable solutions. You’ll own the visualization layer end‑to‑end—from data shaping and rendering to observability and visual polish.

What you’ll do

• Build reusable charting components and visualization primitives
• Own performance profiling and optimize rendering (SVG/Canvas/WebGL)
• Collaborate on UX for filtering, drill‑downs, and interactivity
• Contribute to design systems, Storybook examples, and docs
• Establish accessibility checks and visual regression tests
• Partner with backend teams on data contracts and query performance
• Add telemetry/observability to understand how visualizations are used
• Prototype new visual patterns and ship them behind flags/experiments
• Mentor teammates on visualization best practices and performance tuning

Requirements

• Strong JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web stack experience
• Experience with SVG/Canvas/WebGL or charting libraries
• Attention to detail in UX, accessibility, and performance; experience tuning large datasets
• Comfort collaborating from our New York City office or remotely across US-friendly time zones
• Fluency with profiling tools (e.g., Chrome DevTools, Flamegraphs) and bundle optimization
• Bonus: experience with WebGL shaders, data sketching tools, or delivering SDKs to partners
